We’re well known for choosing and using distinctive artwork throughout our projects. We like to keep up to date with what’s going on in the art world at all levels so decided to check out Art16 at London’s Olypmia last week to see what we could find.
The fair presented over 1000 artworks from artists and galleries from every continent, showcasing exciting emerging talent alongside established contemporary artists.
“Art16 unites art-lovers, collectors, gallerists and artists from around the globe, together with an engaging programme of free talks, expert-led tours and performances, and a highly anticipated revolving pop-up restaurant by Corbin & King, the duo behind The Wolseley and The Delaunay.”
FAVOURITE THING: Philip Colbert’s Fried Egg World – a pop-up cafe housed in a mirrored space decorated with eggs, bacon, cigarettes and other delights that you might find in a typical greasy spoon caff made out of sequins, no less.
“I wanted to create a “FRIED EGG WORLD” for Art 16. I love the egg as a symbol, the ultimate marriage of humour and aesthetics. On one level, the abstract aesthetic purity of Piet Mondrian strived for, on the other capturing the humour of the greasy British fry up.”
MOST INTERESTING DISCOVERY: Simon Adjiashvili a modern painter who creates atmospheric and beautifully rendered pictures of rooms that at first appear to be still life studies. These stunning paintings in fact represent memories of rooms from his childhood. http://www.simonadjiashvili.com
ART WE WANT TO BUY FOR OURSELVES: “I am in the detail” triptych of gold, black and grey screen prints by Harland Miller who is represented by Damian Hurst’s Other Criteria Gallery https://othercriteria.com/uk
ADDED BONUS: We got to create our own art out of glitter and sequins : )
